Abnormal Pap smear? Assessed and treated in one visit.
ColpoCare is our office-based colposcopy service with same-day treatment. If your Pap smear or HPV test showed changes, we examine the cervix under magnification and — where treatment is needed — treat it in the same appointment, right in our rooms. No hospital admission, no second procedure date, no weeks of waiting and worrying. An abnormal result does not mean cancer: most changes are mild and simply need a closer look — and 90% of cervical cancers are preventable with screening and timely treatment.
Who it's for
- Women with an abnormal Pap smear or a positive HPV test
- Women referred by their GP with a suspicious-looking cervix, persistent discharge, or post-coital/postmenopausal bleeding
- GPs seeking a fast, single-visit treatment pathway for their patients (shared-care: you screen, we treat, follow-up returns to you)
How the ColpoCare pathway works
- Screening at your GP — Pap smear or HPV test.
- Referral — if the result needs attention, bookings are done centrally through our office.
- Colposcopy + treatment in one visit — assessment under magnification; where indicated, treatment by thermal ablation or LLETZ in the same appointment at our Johannesburg or Pretoria rooms.
- Follow-up with your GP — we send the care plan and recall dates to your referring doctor; follow-up Pap at 6 months.
The procedure feels similar to a Pap smear; most patients drive themselves home and are back to normal activity the next day.
Fees
R5,000 all-inclusive for cash patients — assessment and treatment, one fee.
- Discovery Health: direct agreement in place — no authorisation needed
- Other medical aids: authorisation required; billed per our schedule
- Follow-up Pap at 6 months is billed separately through your GP
